Karla K. Morton is the 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate and a celebrated poet, speaker, songwriter and storyteller.

Karla has more than 15 books in print, and she has been published in numerous literary and poetry journals. Her awards and recognition in her field include:

Karla’s poetry throughout her career spans a wide range of topics, but her most recent work has focused on western culture, legends and stories. Her latest book – Santa Fe Trail: Chasing the Big West – is a collaboration with Michael Martin Murphey, Bob Boze Bell and Alan Birkelbach.

She was the only “cowgirl” selected for a front-page feature story on Cowboy Poets by Enchanted Outpost Magazine, and True West Magazine called her Santa Fe Trail book “one of the most interesting and creative books on the American West to be published.”
